Whistling Noise From the Radio in AM Mode Only

MODEL:
E93 (3 Series Convertible)

SITUATION

In AM mode only, there is a repetitive whistling noise from the radio every 20 seconds. This affects radio stations in the frequency range 770 kHz to 800 kHz.

This whistling noise sounds like a capacitor charging and discharging, and occurs with the hard top up or down.

Note:
The whistling noise does not occur with the ignition off (KL-30).

CAUSE

The affected Roll-Over Protection Module (P/N 65 77 9 134 734, HW:9 and SW:19) works in the same frequency range (770 - 800 kHz).

CORRECTION

Replace the Roll-Over Protection Module.

Install an improved part with HW: 10 and SW: 20.
