54 10 030 Removing And Installing Mechanism For The Rear Glass Slide/Tilt Sunroof Cover

Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove complete glass slide/tilt sunroof
- Remove front water channel
- Remove rear water channel
- Remove powertrains with transmission
- Remove rear cross member

Overview of glass lid mechanism:












NOTE:
Always replace mechanism for glass slide/tilt sunroof in pairs.
Completely remove all faulty components from the guide channel.
If necessary, lightly grease guide channel.

WARNING: Wear safety goggles.

NOTE: Water channel support cannot be removed without incurring damage.







Break out tabs with a screwdriver and lever out support.

Installation note:
Remove all faulty components completely.
Replace water channel support and hook into place.







Push the front gate (1) to the rear until the front gate (1) is pushed past the drive cable plate (2).







Lever the retaining clip (1) out of the drive cable plate (2) in direction of arrow.
Remove locking lever (3) from drive cable plate (2).







Push the drive cable plate (1) with rear gate (2) towards the rear until the rear gate is exposed (front mechanism is also pulled).
Remove the rear gate (2) upwards.
Push drive cable plate (1) to the rear until the spring retainer (3) is exposed.

IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage. Do not bend guide rail when levering the spring retainer (3) out.
Lever out spring retainer (3) with screwdriver.

NOTE: Spring retainer (3) cannot be removed without incurring damage.

Installation note:
Replace faulty spring retainer (3).
Position spring retainer (3) in rail and press downwards until spring retainer (3) is engaged.







Continue sliding the drive cable plate with control carriage (1) in the guide channel to the rear and remove the control carriage (1).

Installation note:
Make sure the control carriage (1) for the rear glass slide/tilt sunroof cover is correctly seated on the driver (2) on drive cable.







Installation note:
Make sure drive cable plate (1) lid is correctly seated on driver (3) of drive cable.
Slide rear drive cable plate (1) in front of front mechanism forwards.
Then slide the front mechanism for the glass slide/tilt sunroof cover completely to the front.
Install retaining locking lever (2) and retaining clip.
Move rear drive cable plate (1) until closing lever is engaged in guide rail
Rear drive cable plate (1) must be heard and felt to snap into guide rail, as otherwise the guide lugs of the front drive cable plate will break off.







Push drive cable plate (1) further to the rear (front mechanism is also pulled).
Push until the front edge of the drive cable plate (1) matches up with the start of the countersink in the guide rail (2).

IMPORTANT: The front mechanism must not be moved any further.







Pull the drive cable plate (1) upwards slightly at the rear end and turn inwards.







Pull the cable the riser cable (1) out of the guide rail to the rear.

Installation note:
Feed the riser cable into the guide rail.
Make sure the driver is correctly seated in the drive cable plate (2).







Remove the drive cable plate from the guide rail and front gate as follows:
1. Raise the drive cable plate.
2. Turn the drive cable plate inwards and remove.







Installation note:
Insert the drive cable plate (1) first by the lug in the first gate (2).







Removing control carriage for wind deflector:

NOTE: Spring retainer (2) cannot be removed without incurring damage.

Wear safety goggles for this repair work.
Carefully lever centre of rotation for wind deflector out of guide rail.
Lever out spring retainer (2) with screwdriver.

Installation note:
Replace faulty spring retainer.
Pull drive cable for floating headlining out of guide rail.
Pull control carriage (1) for wind deflector towards rear out of rail and remove.

Installation note:
Pull front mechanism towards rear completely.
Insert control carriage (1) in guide rail and slide forwards completely.
Install centre of rotation for wind deflector in guide rail. Check that centre of rotation is correctly seated.







Installation note:
Observe grease instructions for replacement parts.







NOTE:
- Check smooth and noise-free running of kinematics.
- Run a function check.
