Interior - Ash Tray Won't Pop Out When Released

SUBJECT
Ashtray Does Not Pop Out When the Release is Pressed

MODEL
E70 (X5) produced up to 2/2009

E71 (X6) produced up to 2/2009

SITUATION
The ashtray located at the front of the center console does not release and pop up when the release button, to the right of the ashtray, is pressed.

CAUSE
The ejector pins located beneath the ashtray are no longer engaged in the console. One or more of the retaining hooks on the ejector pins has broken off.

CORRECTION
Replace the ejector pins and associated springs.

Do not replace the entire cup holder assembly, which includes the ashtray insert.

PROCEDURE

1. Press the release button to the right of the ashtray and pull the ashtray out.

2. Pull up on both ejector pins to remove them.

3. Remove the springs underneath them.

4. Insert the new ejector pins and associated springs, and press them into place.

5. Install the ashtray
