16 19 060 Drawing Off And Filling SCR Passive Reservoir







IMPORTANT:
Ensure adequate ventilation in the workbay.
Avoid skin contact (wear gloves).
Avoid eye contact (safety goggles).
Urea/water mixture can escape when components carrying urea/water mixture are released. Have a collecting vessel ready.
Observe country-specific waste disposal regulations.







IMPORTANT:
Maintain conditions of absolute cleanliness.
Connections and covers of lines carrying urea/water mixture must be cleaned thoroughly with water after each removal or before each installation.
Thoroughly clean the working area with water after repair work.
Use fluff-free cloths for cleaning (see ETP Electronic Parts Catalogue WAYPALL L20 cleaning cloths).
Close connections and lines.
Thoroughly clean special tool with water after each use.







Necessary preliminary work:
- Remove side right underbody panelling
- Remove intake port







Remove filler head plug (1).

IMPORTANT:
Before starting up urea/water mixture extractor unit:
Read unit manufacturer's operating and safety instructions.







Detach sealing cap (1) from suction line.

Installation note:
Check latch mechanism of sealing cap (1) by pulling.







Connect urea/water mixture extractor unit (refer to BMW Service Workshop Equipment) to connection (1).
Draw off urea/water mixture.

NOTE: Do not reuse drawn-off urea/water mixture.







IMPORTANT:
Before starting up urea/water mixture filler unit:
Read unit manufacturer's operating and safety instructions.

Connect filler line (1) to filler connection (2).
Connect tank ventilation line (4) to connector (3).







Connect filler unit filler connection (1) to passive reservoir filler connection.
Stop cocks (2) closed. Stop cocks are positioned at right angles to direction of flow.
Connect filler connection (4) to urea/water mixture reservoir (3).







Establish height difference (A) between urea/water mixture reservoir and passive reservoir filler connection.
Open stop cocks (1). Stop cocks are positioned in direction of flow.
Passive reservoir is filled. Observe filling capacities.







The passive reservoir is overfilled if the urea/water mixture in the tank ventilation line (2) rises to the same level as in the filler line (1).







Set urea/water mixture reservoir (1) down on floor.
The urea/water mixture flows back through tank ventilation line (2) and filler line (3) into reservoir (1).

Close stop cocks when no more fluid flows through lines (2 and 3). Stop cocks point at right angles to direction of flow.
Disconnect filler unit from filler connection.
After use, clean filler unit thoroughly with water.
