Condition

Some customers may comment on consistent static noise heard in the radio speakers. This noise is very low and repeats about every 30 seconds. It can only be heard when radio is off and vehicle is running.

Correction

To greatly reduce the noise, install a capacitor into the rear differential clutch check valve circuit using the procedure listed below.

1. Remove the driver seat from the vehicle.

2. Remove the LH center seat from the vehicle.

3. Remove the LH front and rear sill plates.

4. Remove the LH lower center pillar trim panel.

5. Remove both the center seat anchor plate bezels from the floor.

6. Pull back the carpet to expose wiring harness pass-through.

7. Remove the pass-through shield by drilling out rivets.

8. On the left side of pass-through, locate the connector with the light blue, pink and black wires.

9. Cut back tape approximately 305 mm (12 in).

Important:
The capacitor must be installed with the negative side pointing toward the rear differential actuator.

10. Install the capacitor (1) in series on the black wire using splice clips.

11. Apply 60/40 rosin core solder to the opening in the back of the splice clip. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for solder equipment.

12. Tape the entire splice area.

13. Install the pass-through shield using rivets.

14. Install the carpet.

15. Install both the center seat anchor plate bezels to the floor.
