Rear Axle Assembly Replace

It is not necessary to remove the rear axle assembly for any normal repairs, but if the housing must be replaced, the assembly may be removed as follows:
1. Raise vehicle and support using jack stands under both frame side rails.
2. Mark rear universal joint and flange for proper reassembly and disconnect rear joint.
3. Push propeller shaft as far forward as possible and wire up out of way.
4. Disconnect parking brake cables and rear brake hose. Cover brake hose opening to prevent entrance of dirt.
5. Support axle with jack and disconnect shock absorbers at lower ends.
6. Disconnect upper control arms at axle housing, then lower axle and remove coil springs.
7. Disconnect lower control arms and remove axle assembly.
