Fig. 27 Installing compressor shell:

1. Lubricate cylinder O-rings with refrigerant oil and install in front and rear O-ring grooves in cylinder.
2. Place shell on cylinder and rotate retaining strap into position.
3. Install holding fixture with long bolts and plate washers, aligning step projections of fixture to contact compressor shell evenly.
4. Manually push shell close to O-ring and tighten fixture screws finger tight. Ensure shell is aligned properly, then alternately tighten fixture bolts approximately 1/4 inch to push shell over cylinder O-rings and against shell stop flange at rear of cylinder, Fig. 27.
5. Bend shell retaining strap into position.
