Compressor Models With Cycling Clutch

Oil Charge-Component Replacement
If there are no signs of excessive leakage, add the following amount of oil depending on component to be replaced.
Evaporator 3 ounces
Condenser 1 ounce
If accumulator or compressor are to be replaced, drain oil from component to be replaced and measure, then add same amount of new oil to replacement component plus one additional ounce.
R-4 and DA-6 compressors do not have an oil sump. On all compressor models, if accumulator is being replaced, two additional ounces on 1981---82 models, or three additional ounces on 1983---86 models must be added to replace amount captured by desiccant in old accumulator.
Oil Charge-Leak Condition
On models with A-6 or DA-V5 compressor, both accumulator and compressor must be removed and oil drained and measured in cases of excessive oil leakage. If oil recovered is 4 ounces or more, add same amount of new refrigerant oil to system. If amount of oil recovered is less than 4 ounces, add 6 ounces of new refrigerant oil to system.
On models with radial R-4 or DA-6 compressor, it will only be necessary to remove, drain and measure oil from accumulator assembly in cases of excessive oil leakage. These compressors do not have an oil sump, therefore it is not necessary to remove compressor in cases of oil leakage. If amount of oil recovered is 3 ounces or more, add the same amount of new refrigerant oil to system. If amount recovered is less than 3 ounces, add 3 ounces of new refrigerant oil to system.
If accumulator is replaced, two additional ounces of oil on R-4 compressors, or 3 additional ounces of oil on DA-6 compressor must be added to replace amount captured by desiccant in old accumulator.
