Oxygen Sensor: Service and Repair

The following procedure should be performed with engine temperature over 120°F, otherwise the oxygen sensor may be difficult to remove.

The oxygen sensor has a permanently attached pig-tail and connector. This pig-tail should not be removed, since removal will affect proper operation of oxygen sensor.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Battery ground cable.
2. Oxygen sensor electrical connector.
3. Carefully remove oxygen sensor. Use caution, since excessive force may damage threads in exhaust manifold.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. If new sensor is being used, install sensor into manifold or pipe.
2. If old sensor is being reused, coat threads with anti-seize compound, Part No. 5613695 or equivalent, then install into manifold. Torque sensor to 41 Nm (30 ft lbs).
3. Electrical connector.
4. Battery ground cable.
