Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Scribe hood hinge locations and remove hood.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Disconnect electrical connectors from starter motor and remove starter.
5. Remove flexplate cover, then mark relationship between flexplate and torque converter and remove 3 torque converter bolts.
6. On models equipped with A/C, unfasten A/C compressor and position aside.
7. On all models, drain cooling system, then disconnect lower radiator hose.
8. Remove right front engine mount attaching bolts.
9. Remove right inner fender splash shield.
10. Remove transaxle-to-engine mount attaching bolt located between cylinder block and transaxle.
11. Remove right rear engine mount attaching nuts.
12. Disconnect exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.
13. Disconnect heater hoses from engine, then lower vehicle.
14. Remove serpentine drive belt.
15. Remove alternator.
16. On models equipped with power steering, unfasten power steering pump and position aside.
17. On all models, remove mass air flow sensor and air intake duct.
18. Disconnect electrical connector from cooling fan and remove the fan.
19. Disconnect upper radiator hose and remove the radiator.
20. Attach suitable lifting equipment to engine, then remove left upper transaxle mount.
21. Remove master cylinder, then disconnect fuel lines from fuel rail.
22. Disconnect throttle, throttle valve and cruise control (if equipped) cables from throttle body.
23. Remove remaining engine-to-transaxle attaching bolts, then lift engine from vehicle.
24. Reverse procedure to install.
