Bulletin: 87-6E-20A

Date: Oct., '87

Ref. No. 87-145A-6E

Corp. Ref. No. 706505R

SUBJECT: POOR COLD DRIVEABILITY, ENGINE DOES NOT STAY RUNNING ON INITIAL COLD START, OR INTERMITTENTLY WILL NOT STAY RUNNING ON DECEL

MODELS AFFECTED: SOME 1986 AND 1987 SOMERSETS AND SKYLARKS AND SOME 1986 LESABRES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L MFI ENGINES (VIN CODE L)
NOTICE: This bulletin supersedes Bulletin 87-6E-20 dated July, 1987, due to a change in the 1986 LeSabre PROM calibration. Please discard 87-6E-20 and replace it with this revision which provides an updated service PROM part number.

Some 1986 and 1987 Somersets and Skylarks and some 1986 LeSabres equipped with a 3.0L MFI engine (VIN Code L) may experience one or more of the following conditions:

^ Poor cold driveability (tip-in sags, hesitations, rough idle).

^ Will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold (with proper fuel pressure and no leak down).

^ Engine intermittently will not stay running on decel or during parking lot maneuvers, under closed throttle conditions.

If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new Service PROM.

These PROM's are currently available through General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO) under the following part numbers:
