Insufficient Heating

DIAGNOSIS
To diagnose the Electronic Climate Control (ECC) System in the shortest time and with the least amount of effort, it is important to know how a properly functioning system will perform. For diagnosis of all ECC functions, refer to CLIMATE CONTROL DIAGNOSIS.

INSUFFICIENT HEAT

Check duct work for proper installation. Check the blower operation. Check for coolant flow through the heater core as follows:

1. Check radiator coolant level.
2. Start the engine and allow it to reach operating temperature.
3. Set climate control temperature to 32°C (90°F).
4. Set blower speed to 'HI'.
5. Select any mode except for 'OFF'.
6. Place hands close to lower heater hose.

CAUTION: Avoid touching heater hose to prevent personal injury.

7. Place both hands close to the upper heater hose. It should feel cooler.

If both hoses feel hot and nearly the same temperature, check for restrictions in the heater core and related hoses or pipes.
