Engine Installation

Engine To Transmission Fasteners:

INSTALL OR CONNECT

CAUTION: Make certain bolts are in their correct locations. If not, engine damage may occur.

1. Assemble engine to transaxle.
- torque converter to flywheel bolts and bolt holes should be cleaned, then apply Adhesive/Sealant Compound GM P/N 1052624 or equivalent to the bolts.
2. Position engine and transaxle assembly under engine compartment and slowly lower vehicle over the assembly until transaxle mount is indexed and install bolt.

3. Install engine support fixture J 28467-A or equivalent and adjust to previous setting.

Engine Rear Mount:

4. Engine mounts.
- Rear mount to body bracket and torque to 54 Nm (40 lbs. ft.).
- Rear mount nut and torque to 75 Nm (55 lbs. ft).
5. Raise vehicle off of support fixture.
6. Axle shafts to transaxle.
7. Heater outlet hose to radiator outlet pipe.
8. Suspension supports, crossmember, and stabilizer shaft assembly.
9. Install retaining bolts. Tighten rear bolts first to 90 Nm (66 lbs. ft.) then center to 90 Nm (66 lbs. ft.) then rear bolts to 90 Nm (66 lbs. ft.).
10. Ball joint nuts.
11. Radiator air deflector.
12. Lower radiator hose.
13. Right splash shield.
14. Front tires and wheels.
15. Lower the vehicle and torque lug nuts to 135 Nm (100 lbs ft.).

Right Engine Mount.:

16. Right engine mount.
17. Remove J28467-A engine support fixture.
18. Vacuum hoses.
19. Electrical connections to:
- Generator.
- Injector harness.
- A/C compressor, if equipped.
- Idle Air Control (IAC) and Throttle Position Switch (TPS) at throttle body.
- Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor.
- Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor.
- Vacuum purge solenoid.
20. If A/C equipped, compressor/condenser hose assembly to compressor.
21. Grounds and battery cable at transaxle stud/bolt.
22. Electrical leads to starter solenoid.
23. Trans axle cooler pipes
24. Shift and TV cables.
25. Exhaust manifold and heat shield. Refer to Exhaust Manifold. Exhaust Manifold
26. Electrical connections to:
- Two (2) engine coolant temperature sensors.
- Oil pressure sensor/switch.
- Knock sensor.
- Oxygen sensor.
- Crankshaft position sensor.
- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS).
- Park/Neutral switch.
- Ignition coil and module assembly (2).
- Starter solenoid.
27. Fuel lines.
28. Positive battery cable to battery.

Power Steering Pump Mounting:

29. Power steering pump pivot to block bolt.
30. Power steering pump rear bracket and tension belt.
31. Throttle lever actuator power steering pressure switch connector.
32. Vacuum hoses to intake manifold and to tube from brake booster.
33. Throttle cable and bracket.
34. Coolant fan.
35. Upper radiator support.
36. Air cleaner duct.
37. Radiator outlet (upper) hose.
38. Fill radiator with coolant until coolant reaches heater hose water outlet then install hose (this assists with complete cylinder block fill) then continue fill.
39. Fill transaxle with fluid.
40. Check and fill engine oil.
41. Negative battery cable.
42. If A/C equipped, evacuate, charge and leak test A/C system.
43. Start engine and inspect for fluid leaks.
