SUBJECT: ROUGH EDGE ON REAR QUARTER BODY SIDE MOLDING
(APPLY TAPE TO SIDE MOLDING PROCEDURE)
MODELS AFFECTED: 1991 ROADMASTER ESTATE WAGON
1992 ROADMASTER SEDAN
APPLICATION:
1991 Buick Roadmaster Wagon before VIN MW405519 and 1992 Roadmaster Sedan before VIN NR409466.
CONDITION:
Potential for scrapes on hands when in area of rear wheelhouse area (i.e. washing rear tires, changing tires, etc.).
CAUSE:
Rough edge on body side molding protrudes past rear wheelhouse flange into rear inner wheelhouse.
CORRECTION:
Apply protective tape to body side molding as follows:
1. Remove 3 screws holding molding to rear wheelhouse flange.
2. Remove molding from vehicle by pushing down on upper edge of molding and rotating lower edge of molding away from vehicle body.
3. Clean both sides of flange on body side molding that covers wheelhouse flange with adhesive cleaner such as 3M # 08984 or equivalent.
4. Wrap 3M tape # 5430 or equivalent over edge of flange on body side molding.
IMPORTANT: Protect quarter panel from paint damage during molding installation by lightly applying small pieces of protective tape (i.e. 3M # 5430, electrical tape, cloth body tape, etc.) to back side of upper corners of molding. Be sure enough tape is exposed to allow for easy removal of tape after molding is installed.
5. Reinstall molding on vehicle by placing molding on upper retainers, pushing molding downward, rotating lower edge of molding toward vehicle and releasing molding.
6. Reinstall 3 screws through molding into wheelhouse flange.
7. Repeat for opposite side.
