Sun Load Sensor

The sun load sensor is a reverse bias photodiode - a dome-type sensor that responds to varying degrees of sunlight by permitting more or less of the 5-volt reference voltage to flow through the circuit. The effect of the sun load sensor in bright sunlight is as if the temperature setting was lowered by as much as 3 degrees.
