Throttle Position Sensor: Adjustments

The TPS is not adjustable. The reading should be be checked only when the TPS sensor or throttle body has been replaced, idle speed has been adjusted, or if a trouble codes exist. To check the TPS reading connect a digital volt ohmmeter to the dark blue and black wires of the TPS connector, or install a "Scan" tool. Take reading with key "ON" engine "OFF."

Check TPS only after the idle speed has been adjusted, or throttle body parts have been replaced.

1. Disconnect TPS connector and connect jumpers between the harness connector and the TPS sensor. Connect a suitable digital voltmeter to the dark blue and black wires in the TPS connector, or set the "Scan" tool to measure the TPS output voltage.

2. Turn ignition switch to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine. See TPS voltage reading under Powertrain Management/Computers and Control Systems/Throttle Position Sensor/Specifications/Electrical.

3. If voltage reading is satisfactory, remove the voltmeter or "Scan" tool and jumper leads. Reconnect the TPS connector.

4. If proper voltage reading is not obtained, replace TPS sensor.
