Engine - Oil Leak From Rear, New Camshaft Plug

OIL LEAKS FROM REAR OF ENGINE (REPLACE CAMSHAFT PLUG)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1992 ROADMASTER

CONDITION:

Some owners of 1992 Roadmasters may comment on oil leaks from the rear of the engine. Some of these leaks may be misdiagnosed as a rear main crankshaft seal or oil pan gasket leak.

CAUSE:

Insufficient sealant around the camshaft plug, P/N 3997752, at the rear of the engine block.

CORRECTION:

Before making repairs for rear main crankshaft seal or oil pan gasket leaks, check the cam plug by disconnecting the transmission and visually inspecting for oil leaks around the cam plug. Replace the plug if necessary. Use the following procedure to install a new plug.

- Coat plug outside diameter with GM part number 12346004 sealant or equivalent.

- Install plug flush to 0.79 mm (1/32 inch) deep.
