Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

With/Without Air Bag Deployment-Component Inspection

All SIR components, including harness and brackets must be inspected after an accident. Any wire harness damage must be repaired only with the crimp and seal splice sleeves contained within kit J-38125. Any SIR components that are damaged or bent must be replaced with new parts even if deployment did not occur. Never use SIR parts from another vehicle. This does not include remanufactured parts purchased from an authorized General Motors dealer. Never attempt to service SIR parts on your own. Service is by replacement only. Verify replacement inflator module part number as some inflator modules look identical but contain different internal components.
Vehicles involved in accidents resulting in frame damage, major body or sheet metal damage, or where the steering column has been impacted, may also have a damaged or misaligned steering column. To check steering column for accident damage, refer to CHECKING STEERING COLUMN FOR ACCIDENT DAMAGE.
