Hesitation or Stalls on Acceleration

Definition: Momentary lack of response as the accelerator is pushed down. Can occur at any vehicle speed. Usually most severe when first trying to make the vehicle move, as from a stop sign. May cause the vehicle to stall if severe enough.

POSSIBLE CAUSE ACTION

Poor or contaminated fuel ^ Check for excessive alcohol content. Alcohol/Contaminants-In-Fuel Testing Procedure
^ Recommend higher grade fuel

Low Fuel Pressure ^ Check fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel filter, and pressure regulator

Fuel Metering ^ Check air/fuel ratio
Contaminated or defective oxygen sensor ^ Refer to COMPUTERS AND CONTROL SYSTEMS.
Restricted or defective fuel injector(s) ^ Fuel Injector Balance Test Procedure
