Door Auto Locks - Do Not Operate/Courtesy Lights Stay On

Bulletin: 93-8-14
Date: March '93
Ref. No.: 93-110-8
Corp. Ref. No.: 338102

SUBJECT:
AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS MAY NOT OPERATE/COURTESY LIGHTS STAY ON WITH IGNITION ON (REWIRE IGNITION CIRCUIT)

MODELS AFFECTED:
1993 REGAL SEDAN WITH R.K.E. (RPO AUO)

CONDITION:

On the 1993 Regal sedan with power windows and remote keyless entry (RPO AUO), the following conditions may occur ONLY if the remote keyless entry transmitter is used to unlock the door, and the power window lock-out switch on the driver's door is in the lock-out position:

1. The courtesy lights may stay on after the ignition is turned on. They will then time out after about 30 seconds.

2. The automatic door locks may not lock when the transaxle gear selector is moved out of Park. The locks will lock when the vehicle speed reaches 8 mph (11 kph) or when the courtesy lights time out (vehicle stationary).

CAUSE:

The ignition input to the remote keyless entry module is incorrect. It is switched through the power window lock-out switch instead of the ignition switch. This was corrected in production after VIN P1436626.

CORRECTION:

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove the carpet retainer panels from the right side front and rear doors, to access the main body harness. Remove the right hand kickpad. Remove the right side sound insulator panel under the I.P.

3. Locate the 14 gauge pink wire in the harness in the right REAR door opening (it is the only pink wire in the harness). Cut the wire, and fold over and tape the end going toward the FRONT of the car. Splice, solder, and tape an 8 foot (2440 mm) piece of pink 14 gauge wire to end going toward the REAR of the car.

4. Route the new wire in the wire harness retainer toward the front of the car. Locate the C200 (106-way) connector shown in Figure 8, page 8A-201-2 of the Service Manual. Remove the connector to gain access to the wires. Splice (do not cut) the new wire into the pink wire from cavity P3 (this is the only 14 gauge pink wire from the C200 connector). Solder and tape the connection. This will add an ignition feed to the automatic door lock module.

5. Reconnect the C200 connector. Make sure that the new wire is properly routed to avoid any pinch points. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Check that the courtesy lights now operate correctly, with the power window lock-out switch in either position. The lights should come on when the door is opened with the remote keyless entry transmitter, and go out when the ignition switch is turned on. The automatic door locks should lock as soon as the gear selector is moved out of Park.

6. Reinstall the carpet retainer panels, the kickpad, and the sound insulator panel.
