CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
The temperature valve actuator is driven by the control assembly microprocessor to operate the temperature valve. The position of the temperature valve is adjusted to maintain the set interior temperature. A feedback potentiometer is used in the actuator so that the microprocessor will know the position of the temperature valve. The feedback potentiometer is part of a flat pack design actuator which is mounted on the rear-facing surface of the heater and air conditioning evaporator module assembly. A low voltage represents a hot valve position and a high voltage a cold valve position. If either DTC 01 or 02 is set the microprocessor will enter a default value of 128 counts so the driver may still control full hot and full cold.
If the microprocessor voltage supply was disconnected a new actuator was installed or the temperature valve was disturbed the microprocessor will have to be recalibrated. This will prevent DTC 01 or 02 from being set because of a detected difference between the former and present temperature valve positions. To recalibrate the microprocessor. operate the air conditioning system at 32°C (90°F) (Full Hot) for 30 seconds and then at 16°C (60°F) (Full Cold) for 30 seconds.
DIAGNOSTIC AID
If parameter "-12" value counts are high and fully heated air is coming from outlets or counts are low and cooled air is entering the vehicle, check for a binding temperature valve while replacing the actuator.
