Reaction Internal Gear & Carrier Assembly Inspection

1. Install reaction gear support to case bearing onto the case hub as shown. Apply suitable grease to assembly to facilitate installation.

2. Install reaction internal gear and support onto bearing.

3. Install reaction carrier to support thrust bearing assembly onto the support. Ensure outer bearing race faces towards the support.

4. Install reaction carrier onto the thrust bearing.

5. Install Low/Reverse clutch plates into case lugs as follows:

a. Install steel plates and alternate with composition plates. Refer to chart for correct number of plates to be used.

6. To install the new Low/Reverse clutch assembly components and for proper selection of the Low! Reverse selective backing plate, proceed as follows:

a. On a flat work surface, stack up the following Low/Reverse clutch assembly components; 1 waved plate, 5 fiber plates and 4 steel plates, starting with one fiber plate and then alternating with a steel plate. Then position Low/Reverse clutch support assembly. Apply an evenly distributed load to the top of the Low/Reverse support assembly (number 679). A light pressure of approximately 5 ft. lbs., on the Low/Reverse support assembly will provide the correct dimension for measurement. Do not apply excessive pressure. Measure height of the clutch pack from the work surface to the top of the Low/Reverse clutch support (number 679). Use dimension "D," to select the proper thickness of the selective spacer plate for assembly. Install the proper selective spacer plate between the wave plate and first fiber clutch plate with the identification point facing upward. The overall height for dimension "D" with the selective spacer plate included should be 1.20-1.24 inch.

b. Index splines of reaction carrier and case as shown.
