Removal and Replacement

REPLACE
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, if necessary.
3. Disconnect TV cable at its upper end.
4. Remove transmission oil dipstick.
5. Raise and support vehicle, then remove the propeller shaft.
6. Disconnect speedometer cable, shift linkage, then all the electrical leads at transmission and any clips that retain the leads to the transmission case.
7. Remove flywheel cover, mark flywheel and torque converter for installation reference.
8. Remove torque converter to flywheel bolts.
9. Remove catalytic converter support bracket.
10. Remove floor pan reinforcement if it interferes with removal or installation of propeller shaft.
11. Remove transmission support to transmission mount bolt and transmission support to frame bolts and insulators, if used.
12. Using a suitable jack transmission, support and raise transmission slightly, then slide transmission support rearward.
13. Lower transmission to gain access to oil cooler lines, then disconnect oil cooler lines and cap all openings.
14. Disconnect TV cable.
15. Disconnect all electrical connectors.
16. Support engine with suitable tool, remove transmission to engine attaching bolts.
17. Install torque converter holding fixture tool, No. J-21366 or equivalent, then carefully lower transmission assembly from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
