Preliminary Checks

Prior to diagnosing system, ensure the Center High Mounted Stop Lamp (CHMSL) is functioning properly. After repairs, verify the operation of the cruise control system by performing the following procedure:

1. Set parking brake, then start engine.
2. Move cruise switch to Off, then move cruise switch to On and wait at least three seconds before proceeding.
3. Fully depress and hold brake pedal, then push cruise switch in and hold.
4. Hold cruise slider switch in R/A position, then after ten seconds, release brake pedal while holding R/A and Set switches.
5. Engine RPM should increase momentarily then return to normal.
