If more than one control arm is being replaced, remove and install one arm at a time to prevent axle assembly from slipping or twisting out of position.
1. Raise vehicle and support at frame pads. Support nose of axle housing to prevent assembly from twisting when control arm is removed.
2. On models equipped with anti-lock brake systems, remove rear axle speed sensor as follows:
a. Disconnect speed sensor electrical harness.
b. Remove speed sensor harness bracket attaching bolt.
c. Remove speed sensor to rear axle attaching bolt, then remove speed sensor and bracket assembly and position aside.
3. On all models, if lower control arm is being replaced, remove bolts securing stabilizer bar to control arm, if equipped.
4. Remove bolts securing control arm to chassis and rear axle, then the control arm, Fig. 4.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Tighten control arm bolts to specifications with vehicle at normal ride height.
b. All prevailing torque type fasteners must be tightened at nut, not at bolt, to ensure proper clamping force.
c. Install anti-lock brake wheel speed sensors by hand. Do not hammer sensors into position, as damage may result.
