Replacing the PASS-Key II Decoder Module

PASS-Key II DECODER MODULE AND BRACKET
If the PASS-Key II Decoder module is bad, it should be replaced with a new PASS-Key II Decoder module. It is not necessary to match the replacement PASS-Key II Decoder module to the ignition key. The replacement PASS-Key II Decoder module "learns" the ignition key code (resistance value) the first time it is turned on. The ignition key code is "learned" permanently, so caution should be used to ensure that unwanted key codes are not "learned".
If a fault is detected in the system wiring, or it a defective key is used, the replacement module does not "learn" the key code and the "SECURITY" indicator flashes at a rate of once per second while the ignition is on to indicate a fault.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

- Disable Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system. Service and Repair

CAUTION: When servicing an Instrument Panel (I/P) assembly containing a live inflator module, or when leaving an I/P assembly containing a live inflator module unattended on a bench or other surface, always face the air bag deployment opening up, away from the surface. This is necessary so that a free space is provided to allow the air bag to expand in the unlikely event of accidental deployment. Failure to follow procedures could result in personal injury.
