Correction

To determine the correct repair procedure, perform the following inspection:

Inspection

Important:
This inspection procedure must be done on both the left and right rocker panels, regardless of whether the customer comments on one side or both.

Determine the level of corrosion. If it is just "surface" corrosion (caused by stone chips or road debris), follow the repair/refinish information in the appropriate Service Manual and GM Refinish Material Booklet # 4901MD-98. If the corrosion has resulted in perforation through EITHER outer rocker panel from the inside, then replacement of BOTH the left and right side outer rocker panels will be necessary.

Important:
If outer rocker panel replacement is required, inspect the inner rocker panel for corrosion after the outer rocker panel has been removed. If the inner rocker panel has corrosion which has resulted in perforation, then it must also be replaced. Replacement inner rocker panels are available from GMSPO.
