Troubleshooting Hints

PERFORM BEFORE BEGINNING SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS:
1. Check key pellet sensing contacts in ignition key lock cylinder by looking into key opening. If contacts are damaged, or not silver in color, replace ignition key lock cylinder.
2. Check all ignition keys by using J 35628-A PASS-Key(R) II Interrogator or equivalent. If key code window shows "E," or display is erratic, replace owner's key.
3. Check ignition key for a cracked resistor pellet or a pellet that is dirty or coated. Also check that ignition key is free from excess plastic around resistor pellet contacts.
4. Check fuses by visual inspection.
5. SECURITY Indicator operation is described under Circuit Operation in this section.
6. If PASS-Key(R) II system is intermittent, check that PASS-Key(R) II module connector is tight and terminals are clean.
7. If starter enable relay must be replaced, also check CKT 6 (PPL) wiring to the starter solenoid for a possible short. A short may have caused the relay to fail.
8. Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove "GOOD" in a continuity/voltage check. (Refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures) Diagnostic Aids
9. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may effect the integrity of other systems. (Refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures)
