Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Front Caster Adjustment

Fig. 1 Front Caster Adjustment:

1. Remove top strut nuts and washers.
2. Raise and support front of vehicle to separate strut from inner wheel housing.
3. Drill two 12/32 inch holes at front and rear of oval strut mounting hole on left and right strut towers, Fig. 1, then file excess metal to create slotted holes. Paint exposed metal with rust resistant paint or primer.
4. Lower front of vehicle.
5. Install strut attaching nuts, but do not tighten at this time.
6. Adjust caster by moving top of strut forward or rearward. A 0.040 inch position change at the tower is approximately 0.1 degree change in caster.
7. When caster is within specifications, torque strut attaching nuts to 35 ft. lbs.
