Some customers may comment that the carpeting is separating from, or coming out from under the rear door opening sill plate molding.

Correction

Important:
This repair procedure recommends the use of an upholstery type or automotive trim stapler for attaching the retainers. However, if necessary, short trim screws or rivets may be substituted. If you intend to sublet vehicles requiring this repair to an independent automotive trim shop, please supply them with a copy of this Service Bulletin.

Attach a retainer to the carpet using the following procedure.

1. Open the rear side door and remove the door opening sill plate molding.

2. Remove the weatherstrip from the sheet metal at the bottom front of the door opening to expose the sill plate retaining clip.

3. Inspect the plastic retainer, P/N 10414280, and note that one side of the material next to the slot is wider than the other side. If necessary, pull back the carpet and then place one plastic retainer (1) over the clip (2) that attaches the sill plate molding. When properly positioned, the wider side (3) next to the slot will be facing towards the center of the vehicle.

4. Place the carpet (1) over the retainer (2) and mark the location of the retainer on the carpet.

5. Pull back the carpet and retainer from the clip.

Important:
If screws or rivets are used, file the excess screw or rivet material smooth on the underside of the retainer to avoid an itching or squeaking sound from between the fastener and the floor pan when reinstalled.

6. Using an upholstery type stapler, attach the retainer (2) to the carpet (1) using three 12 mm (1/2 in) long galvanized staples (3). If a stapler is not available, short trim screws or rivets may be substituted.

7. Place the slot in the retainer over the clip.

8. Reinstall the door opening weatherstrip.

9. Reinstall the sill plate molding.

10. Repeat the procedure on the opposite side of the vehicle.
