Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

The Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s in the Electronic Brake/Traction Control Module (EBCM/EBTCM) memory are erased in one of two ways:
1. Scan tool method.
2. Ignition cycle default.

NOTE: Whichever method is used, be sure to verify proper system operation and absence of DTCs when the clearing procedure is completed. DTCs cannot be cleared by unplugging the EBCM/EBTCM, disconnecting the battery cables, or by turning the ignition OFF (except on the 50th cycle of ignition cycle default.)

SCAN TOOL METHOD
The scan tool can clear ABS/TCS system DTCs.
1. Install the scan tool.
2. Select ABS/TCS system features.
3. Select DTC(s).
4. Select CLEAR DTC(s).

NOTE: The ignition must be turned OFF and the scan tool disconnected before a road test to check system operation and/or for a DTC resetting. This is necessary because the EBCM/EBTCM will not set DTCs and ABS/TCS control functions may not be available when the scan tool is installed and monitoring the system. The scan tool will log DTCs during some of its diagnostic routines, which are described later.

IGNITION CYCLE DEFAULT
If the ignition is cycled 100 times without a particular malfunction reappearing, that DTC will be erased from EBCM/EBTCM memory and the ignition cycle counter in the EBCM/EBTCM will be reset to zero.
