Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation

The sunroof switch controls the position of the sunroof. The sunroof panel may be slid open or closed, or the rear of the panel may be tilted up into a vent position.

When the sunroof switch is moved to the OPEN position, the open relay energizes. The open relay sends voltage through circuit 127 to the sunroof actuator and circuit 129 is grounded. This drives the sunroof down from vent or back from sliding. Operation in the CLOSE direction is similar. Before the sunroof opens it checks the limit switches to see what position the sunroof is in.

The sunroof will automatically stop in the fully OPEN, FULLY VENTED and CLOSED position when approaching from either the vent or sliding positions. The fully OPEN or CLOSED position is sensed by the limit switches. For example, if the roof is closing from the VENT position, the open relay will be energized. When the roof is fully CLOSED, this position is recognized and the limit switches set the correct sequence when the sunroof is in the fully CLOSED position. When the limit switches are in the correct sequence, the sunroof module microprocessor recognizes this. and no voltage is applied to the sunroof actuator, and it stops.

To continue operation to the sliding mode, the driver must release the sunroof switch. When the sunroof switch is pushed again, the roof will slide open. The sunroof also has a Express Open feature. When the sunroof OPEN switch is pressed and released the sunroof will continue to OPEN.
