Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Front Caster Adjustment

1. Remove the strut housing tie bar (1) by loosening the four through-bolts (2) and removing the left and inboard strut nuts (3).
2. Remove the remaining top strut nuts and the washers (4 & 7).
3. Lift the front of the vehicle by the body to separate the strut (5) from the inner wheelhouse.
4. Drill two 11/32 inch holes (6) at the front and the rear of the oval strut mounting hole on the left and the right strut towers.
5. File the excess metal in order to make the slotted holes.
6. Paint the exposed metal with a rust preventative primer and paint.
7. Lower the front of the vehicle.
8. Reinstall the tie bar on the left and the right inboard strut studs. Install the strut attaching nuts, but do not tighten the strut attaching nuts at this time.

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

9. Adjust the caster by moving the top of the strut forward or backward. A 1 mm (0.040 inch) position change at the tower is about equal to 0.1 degree change in the caster. Refer to Wheel Alignment Specifications.
- Tighten the strut attaching nuts to 24 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) and the tie bar through-bolts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
