A/T Shift Lock Control - Adjustment
The first part of this procedure verifies that the shift cable is installed correctly, without tension. Perform the following steps:
1. Turn the ignition switch to OFF (unlock) position.
2. Place the shift lever at Neutral (N).
3. Unlock the shift cable at the transaxle the shift arm in order to eliminate tension.
4. Lock the shift cable.
5. Place the shift lever at PARK (P).
6. Inspect the shift indicator for proper adjustment. Refer to Shift Indicator Adjustment.
7. Inspect the neutral start switch for proper operation. Refer to PNP Switch Adjustment in Automatic Transaxle.
8. Inspect the BTSI for proper operation. If the condition still exists, continue with this procedure.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
- Tools Required
- J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the left-hand sound insulator.
3. Remove the right-hand sound insulator.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
5. Remove the BTSI solenoid (2) from the steering column lower support using the J 38778 or the equivalent.
6. Remove the BTSI solenoid (2) from the shift control cable using a flat-beaded screwdriver.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Lengthen the BTSI solenoid (1).
2. Snap the BTSI solenoid onto the shift control cable.
3. Snap the BTSI solenoid onto the steering column lower support bracket.
4. Connect the electrical connector.
5. Install the left-hand sound insulator.
6. Connect the negative battery cable.
7. Shift the transmission from (P) Park to (N) Neutral.
8. Shift the transmission back to (P) Park in order to adjust the BTSI solenoid (2).
