Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 37096
- J 38197





1. Use the J 37096 in order to hold the flywheel.
2. Remove the balancer bolt.

Important: Do not separate the pulley from the balancer. Service the pulley and the balancer as an assembly.

3. Use the J 38197 in order to remove the crankshaft balancer. Attach 1/4 in bolts to the pulley. Screw the bolts in 1/4 in.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

- J 36660





1. Install the crankshaft balancer. Lubricate the seal surface with engine oil.
2. Use the J 37096 in order to hold the flywheel.

Notice:
^ This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.
^ Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the balancer bolt.
^ Tighten the balancer bolt to 150 Nm (111 ft. lbs.). Use the J 36660 in order to tighten the bolt an additional 76 degrees.
