Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover.





2. Remove the valve rocker arm pedestal retaining bolts.
3. Remove the pedestal.

Important:
^ Place the assemblies on a clean surface.
^ Store the components in order. Reassemble the components in the same location and with the same mating surfaces as when removed.

4. Remove the valve rocker arm assembly.
5. Clean the valve rocker arms and pedestal bolts in a suitable solution.
6. Inspect the valve rocker arms and pedestal bolts for wear.
7. Clean the bolts of all thread adhesive.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

^ Tools Required
- J 36660 Torque Angle Meter





1. Install the valve rocker arm assembly.
2. Install the pedestal.

Notice: This bolt is designed to permanently stretch when tightened. The correct part number fastener must be used to replace this type of fastener. Do not use a bolt that is stronger in this application. If the correct bolt is not used, the parts will not be tightened correctly. The system or the components may be damaged.

3. Apply GM P/N 12345493 threadlocker or the equivalent to the valve rocker arm bolt threads.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

4. Install the valve rocker arm pedestal retaining bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 15 Nm (11 ft. lbs.) +90° using the J 36660.
5. Install the valve rocker arm cover.
6. Inspect for proper completion of repairs.
7. Listen for valve train noise.
