Steering Shaft, Lower Bearing & Jacket - Disassemble

DISASSEMBLY PROCEDURE

- Tools Required
- J41352 Pivot Pin Remover

1. Remove the upper tilt head components. Refer to Steering Column Tilt Head Assembly Disassemble

Important: The steering column must be in the 12 o'clock position

2. Remove the turn signal & multifunction switch assembly only. Refer to Turn Signal and Multifunction Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
3. Remove the pivot & pulse switch assembly only. Refer to Pivot and Pulse Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle.
4. Remove the ignition switch assembly only. Refer to Ignition and Key Alarm Sw Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle
5. Remove the ignition lock actuator and lock bolt assembly only. Refer to Steering Column Lock Cylinder Set - Disassemble
6. Remove the tilt spring assembly. Refer to Tilt Spring - Disassemble.





7. Remove the lower spring retainer (4).
Remove the lower bearing spring (3).
Remove the lower bearing seat (2).
Remove the adapter and bearing assembly (1).





8. Remove 2 pivot pins (1) using J21854 - 1 (2).





9. Remove the steering column tilt head assembly with the steering shaft assembly from the steering column support assembly.





10. Remove the steering shaft assembly (2) from the steering column tilt head assembly (1).





11. Tilt the race and upper shaft assembly 90 degrees to the lower shaft assembly and disengage. If necessary, remove and discard the old centering sphere and spring.

Important: Mark the race and upper shaft assembly and the lower shaft assembly to ensure proper assembly. Failure to assembly properly will cause the steering wheel to be turned 180 degrees.





12. Remove 4 Torx head screws.
Remove the steering column jacket support assembly from the steering column jacket assembly.
