Front Wheel Drive Shaft Oil Seal Replacement (Left)
Removal Procedure1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
3. Remove the left engine splash shield. Refer to Body and Frame.
4. Remove the left stabilizer shaft link from the left lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
5. Remove the left tie rod end from the left steering knuckle. Refer-to Tie Rod End Replacement Outer-Off Vehicle in Steering and Suspension.
6. Remove the left lower ball joint from the left steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
7. Disconnect the left drive axle from the transaxle. Refer to Wheel Drive Shafts Replacement in Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.
8. Secure the left drive axle to the left steering knuckle and strut.
9. Use a screwdriver or other suitable tool to pry out the seal (409). Do NOT damage the seal bore.
Installation Procedure

- J34115 Left Side Axle Seal Installer
- J37292-B Axle Seal Protector
1. Use a light wipe of transaxle fluid to lubricate the seal lip.
2. Use the J34115 to install a new seal.
3. Install the J37292-B in the seal.
Important: Carefully guide the axle shaft past the lip seal. Do NOT allow the shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface or damage to the seal will occur.
4. Connect the drive axle to the transaxle. Refer to Drive Axles, Bearings and Joints.
5. Remove the J37292-B.
6. Install the left lower ball joint to the left steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
7. Install the left tie rod end to the left steering knuckle. Refer to Tie Front End Replacement-Outer-Off Vehicle in Steering and Suspension.
8. Install the left stabilizer shaft link to the left lower control arm. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement in Steering and Suspension.
9. Install the left engine splash shield. Refer to Wheelhouse Panel Replacement in Body and Frame.
10. Install the left front tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Wheels, Tires and Alignment.
11. Lower the vehicle.
12. Adjust the fluid level.
13. Inspect for proper completion of the repairs.
14. Inspect for proper fluid level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Checking Procedure.
15. Inspect for fluid leaks.
