Theft Deterrent Control Module Replacement

IMPORTANT: The wire routing for the components inside the steering column is critical. When servicing the ignition lock cylinder, maintain proper wire routing.

Matching the replacement PASS-KEY(R)III module to the ignition key is not necessary. All replacement PASS-KEY(R)III modules automatically learn the ignition key transponder value of the first ignition key used to start the vehicle. The ignition key transponder value is learned permanently, so use caution in order to ensure that unwanted ignition key transponder values are not learned. Refer to Ignition and key Alarm Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle and Ignition and Key Alarm Switch Assembly - Assemble - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt for replacement procedures.

Replacing Keys
When there is no learned master key (black) available to perform adding keys procedure the 10 minute re-learn procedure or 30 minute re-learn procedure must be performed. Refer to Programming Theft Deterrent System Components.

Adding Keys

IMPORTANT:
^ Additional master keys (Black) or valet keys (Gray) may be added (up to 10 keys) using this procedure when there is an available learned master key (Black). With vehicle's equipped with option code (Z49), 2 master keys (black) must be available.
^ This procedure adds keys only. It does not erase previously learned keys.
^ The keys to be learned must duplicate the mechanical cut of the current key.
^ If more than one valet key (Gray) is to be learned, each must be immediately preceded by a learned master key (Black).

1. With a previously learned master key (Black), turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. With option code (Z49) ONLY, install a second previously learned master key (Black), turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
3. Turn OFF the ignition and remove the key.
4. Within 10 seconds insert the key to be learned (either Black or Gray) and turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF. The vehicle has now learned the new key(s).
