Instrument Panel Retainer Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to SIR Handling Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the left closeout panel.
3. Remove the right closeout panel.
4. Remove the left instrument panel (IP) endcap.
5. Remove the right instrument panel (IP) endcap.
6. Remove the IP upper trim pad.
7. Remove the radio.
8. Remove the knee bolster.
9. Disconnect and position aside the steering column.
10. Remove the IP cluster.
11. Remove the right IP accessory trim plate.
12. Remove the left IP accessory trim plate.
13. Remove the center IP trim plate.
14. Remove the IP storage compartment.




15. Remove the fasteners from the IP retainer to the IP carrier.




16. Remove the wiring retainers from the IP carrier.
17. Disconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
18. Disconnect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
19. Disconnect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
20. Remove the IP retainer from the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as necessary.
21. Transfer all the necessary components to the new retainer.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the IP retainer to the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as removed.
2. Connect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
3. Connect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
4. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the wiring harness retainers to the IP carrier.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the fasteners that retain the IP retainer to the IP carrier.

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

7. Install the IP cluster.
8. Install the center IP trim plate.
9. Install the right IP accessory trim plate.
10. Install the left IP accessory trim plate.
11. Install the IP storage compartment.
12. Install the steering column.
13. Install the knee bolster.
14. Install the radio.
15. Install the IP upper trim pad.
16. Install the right IP endcap.
17. Install the left IP endcap.
18. Install the left closeout panel.
19. Install the right closeout panel.
20. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint Systems.
