Scan Tool Data Definitions

IPC Scan Tool Data Definitions
The IPC Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all IPC related parameters available on the scan tool.

8-Digit GM Part Number: The scan tool displays the GM 8-digit part number of the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

Air Bag Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the air bag indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Antilock Discrete: The scan tool displays On/Off. When the discrete input is active to the IPC, the scan tool will display ON. When the discrete input is inactive, the scan tool displays OFF.

Antilock Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the ABS indicator as commanded by the EBCM.

Battery Voltage: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the battery positive voltage circuit of the IPC.

Brake Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the Brake indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Check Gages Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the CHECK GAGES indicator in the HUD module.

Cruise Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the cruise indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Display Fuel Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the Fuel Info switch of the DIC, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Display Gauge Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the Gauge Info switch of the DIC, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Driver Door Ajar Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the driver door ajar switch input detected by the DDM.

Driver Door Jamb Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the driver door jamb switch input detected by the DDM (low input).

ECT Sensor: The scan tool displays -40 to +140°C (-40 to +284°F). The PCM monitors the voltage at the signal circuit of the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Engine Oil Level Switch: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch, where an open switch is displayed as Low.

Engine Oil Life Remaining: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM is responsible for calculating and sending the correct oil life data to the IPC.

Engine Oil Pressure Sen: The scan tool displays 0-19 V. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil pressure switch.

Engine Speed: The scan tool displays 0-9999 RPM. The PCM is responsible for calculating correct engine speed data using the vehicle speed sensor input.

English/Metric Status: The scan tool displays English/Metric. The state of the units displayed on the IPC and the HUD as requested by the IPC.

English/Metric Sw: The scan tool displays Active/Inactive. The IPC monitors the Eng/Met button on the DIC switch, where a closed switch is displayed as Active.

Fasten Seat Belts: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the fasten safety belt indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Fuel Tank Level Remaining: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM calculates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank based on the signal circuit from the fuel level sensor.

High Beam Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the high beam indicator as commanded by the IPC.

High Beam Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the high beam switch as detected by the head up display (HUD).

Hot Temp Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the hot coolant temperature indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Ignition 1: The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 1 voltage at the IPC.

Ignition 3: The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 3 voltage at the IPC.

Ignition Counter: The scan tool displays 0-50. The IPC counts the number of times the ignition is cycled.

Ignition Voltage: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured when the ignition is turned on at the HUD.

Key In Ignition: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The instrument panel module (IPM) monitors the ignition key alarm switch, where a closed switch is displayed as Yes (key in ignition).

km/h Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the km/h indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Left Rear Door Ajar Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the left rear door ajar switch.

Left Rear Door Jamb Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the left rear door jamb switch.

Low Brake Fluid Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the brake fluid level indicator switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Low Coolant Level Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the low coolant level indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Low Fuel Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the low fuel indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Lt Turning Signal Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the left turn signal supply voltage circuit, where an active turn signal toggles between On and Off.

MPH Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the MPH indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Odo/Trip Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the odo/trip switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Oil Pressure Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the oil pressure indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Outside Status: The scan tool displays Day/Night. The time of day as determined via the ambient light sensor.

Park Brake Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the park brake switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Passenger Door Ajar Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the passenger door ajar switch.

Passenger Door Jamb Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the passenger door ajar switch input.

Prom ID: The scan tool displays the 4-digit number that identifies the modules PROM.

Reset Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the RESET switch of the DIC, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Right Rear Door Ajar Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the right rear door ajar switch.

Right Rear Door Jamb Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the right rear door jamb switch.

Rt Turning Signal Sw: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the right turn signal supply voltage circuit, where an active turn signal toggles between On and Off.

Serial Number: The scan tool displays the 4-digit serial number.

Service Veh Soon Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the SERVICE VEHICLE SOON indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Theft System Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the SECURITY indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Traction Off Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the TRACTION OFF indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Trip Reset Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the trip reset button of the DIC switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Vehicle Speed: The scan tool displays 0-255 km/h (0-159 mph). The IPC obtains vehicle speed data from the PCM on a dedicated input. The PCM is responsible for calculating correct vehicle speed data.

VF Dim: The scan tool displays 0-19 volts. The HUD monitors the VF dimming signal circuit of the HUD switch.

Volt Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the Battery indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Washer Fluid Level: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the windshield washer fluid level switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Year Module Built: The scan tool displays the 4-digit number which corresponds to the year that module was manufactured.
