Molding Replacement - Rear Quarter

Tools Required

J 25070 Heat Gun


Removal Procedure





1. Open the endgate.
2. Remove the push-in retainers from the inside rear edge of the rear quarter panel molding.




3. Use a heat gun J 25070 in a circular motion for 30 seconds 152 mm (6 in) from the surface in order to heat the upper edge of the rear quarter panel molding to 21-32°C (70-90°F).





Notice: Refer to Exterior Trim Emblem Removal Notice in Cautions and Notices.

4. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to remove the upper edge of the rear quarter panel molding from the surface.




5. Pull the upper edge of the rear quarter panel molding out, to release the retainers.
6. Remove the rear quarter panel molding from the door.




7. Remove the push-in retainer nuts from the D-pillar, if required.




8. Remove all adhesive from the rear door body panel using 3M(TM) ScotchBrite molding adhesive remover disk 3M(TM) P/N 07501 or equivalent.
9. Clean the rear door panel surface using Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha and allow to air dry.



Installation Procedure





1. Install the push-in retainer nuts to the D-pillar, if required.




2. Use a heat gun J 25070 in a circular motion for 30 seconds 152 mm (6 in) from the surface in order to heat the upper edge of the front door body side to 21-32°C (70-90°F).

Important: Do not touch the adhesive backing on the molding.


3. Remove the protective liner from the back side of the rear quarter panel molding.
4. Position the rear quarter panel molding to the rear quarter panel.
5. Install rear quarter panel molding starting at the D-pillar and working forward and locating the push-in retainers to the rear quarter panel, pressing rear quarter panel molding into place until fully seated.
6. Install the upper edge of the rear quarter panel molding by applying pressure to the entire length of the molding starting at the rear and working forward in order to ensure a maximum bond to the rear quarter panel.




7. Install the push-in retainers to the inside rear edge of the rear quarter panel molding.
8. Close the endgate.
