Inflatable Restraint Front End Discriminating Sensor Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

CAUTION: Be careful when you handle a sensor. Do not strike or jolt a sensor. Before applying power to a sensor:
^ Remove any dirt, grease, etc. from the mounting surface.
^ Position the sensor horizontally on the mounting surface.
^ Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.
^ Tighten all of the sensor fasteners and sensor bracket fasteners to the specified torque value.

Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.





1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
2. Remove the grille.
3. Remove the retainers that hold the upper front bumper fascia to the radiator support.
4. Pull the fascia from the radiator support to gain access to the discriminating sensor bolts.
5. Remove the orange connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the yellow sensor harness connector (3).
6. Disconnect the harness connector from the sensor (1).




7. Remove the sensor bolts (1).
8. Remove the sensor (2) from the upper radiator core support (3).

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Connect the sensor harness connector (3) to the sensor (1).
2. Install the orange CPA (2) into the yellow sensor harness connector (3).

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.




3. Position the sensor on the upper radiator core support (3). Install the sensor bolts (1).

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

4. Secure the fascia to the radiator support.
5. Install the retainers that hold the upper front bumper fascia to the radiator support.
6. Install the grille.
7. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.
