Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

REMOVAL PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Cover and Plug Openings Notice in Service Precautions.

IMPORTANT:
- Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.
- There is no service interval for in-line fuel filter replacement. Only replace the in-line fuel filter if the filter is restricted.




1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Release
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
3. Disconnect the quick-connect fitting at the inlet of the in-line fuel filter.
4. Remove the threaded nut fitting from the outlet of the in-line fuel filter.
5. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved gasoline container.
6. Remove the in-line fuel bracket bolt.




7. Remove the in-line fuel filter mounting bracket.
8. Remove the in-line fuel filter from the in-line fuel filter mounting bracket.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTE: Refer to Fuel System Ground Notice in Service Precautions.




1. Remove the protective caps from the new in-line fuel filter.
2. Slide the in-line fuel filter into the in-line fuel filter mounting bracket.
3. Install the in-line fuel filter and mounting bracket.
4. Install the in-line fuel filter mounting bracket bolt.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).

5. Install the threaded fitting to the outlet of the in-line fuel filter.

Tighten
Use a back-up wrench in order to prevent the in-line fuel filter from turning. Tighten the in-line fuel filter outlet fitting to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).




6. Connect the quick-connect fitting to the inlet of the in-line fuel filter.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.
9. Inspect for leaks.
9.1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
9.2. Turn OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
9.3. Turn ON the ignition.
9.4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
10. Install the fuel injector sight shield.
