Instrument Panel (I/P) Retainer Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions in Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
2. Remove the left closeout panel.
3. Remove the right closeout panel.
4. Remove the left instrument panel (I/P) endcap.
5. Remove the right instrument panel (I/P) endcap.
6. Remove the I/P upper trim pad.
7. Remove the radio.
8. Remove the knee bolster.
9. Disconnect and position aside the steering column.
10. Remove the I/P cluster.
11. Remove the right I/P accessory trim plate.
12. Remove the left I/P accessory trim plate.
13. Remove the center I/P trim plate.
14. Remove the I/P storage compartment.




15. Remove the fasteners from the I/P retainer to the I/P carrier.




16. Remove the wiring retainers from the I/P carrier.
17. Disconnect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
18. Disconnect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
19. Disconnect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
20. Remove the I/P retainer from the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as necessary.
21. Transfer all the necessary components to the new retainer.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the I/P retainer to the carrier. Feed the wiring through the openings as removed.
2. Connect the cigarette lighter electrical connector.
3. Connect the ashtray lamp electrical connector.
4. Connect the IAT sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the wiring harness retainers to the I/P carrier.






Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

6. Install the fasteners that retain the I/P retainer to the I/P carrier.

Tighten the fasteners to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

7. Install the I/P cluster.
8. Install the center I/P trim plate.
9. Install the right I/P accessory trim plate.
10. Install the left I/P accessory trim plate.
11. Install the I/P storage compartment.
12. Install the steering column.
13. Install the knee bolster.
14. Install the radio.
15. Install the I/P upper trim pad.
16. Install the right I/P endcap.
17. Install the left I/P endcap.
18. Install the left closeout panel.
19. Install the right closeout panel.
20. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3 and SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 5 in Restraint Systems.
