Subject: 10152 - Service Update for Inventory and Customer Vehicles - Power Steering Line Fitting Positioned Incorrectly - Expires with Base Warranty

2011 Buick Regal

This service update includes vehicles in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealership for any reason. It will expire at the end of the involved vehicle's New Vehicle Limited Warranty period.

Purpose

This bulletin provides a service procedure to inspect the position of the power steering line banjo fitting locking device on certain 2010 Buick LaCrosse vehicles equipped with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine (LAF) and 2011 Buick Regal vehicles. These vehicles may have the power steering line banjo fitting locking device that is improperly positioned.

This service procedure should be completed as soon as possible on involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory and customer vehicles that return to the dealer for any type of service during the New Vehicle Limited Warranty coverage period.

Vehicles Involved

A list of involved vehicles currently in dealer inventory is available on the "Service Update Bulletin Information" link under the "Service" tab in GM GlobalConnect (US) or attached to the GlobalConnect message (Canada) used to release this bulletin. Customer vehicles that return for service, for any reason, and are still covered under the vehicle's base warranty, and are within the VIN breakpoints provided below, should be checked for vehicle eligibility in the appropriate system listed below.





Important
Dealers are to confirm vehicle eligibility prior to beginning repairs by using GMVIS (dealers using WINS) or the Investigate Vehicle History link (dealers using GWM). Not all vehicles within the above breakpoints may be involved.

Parts Information

Parts required to complete this service update are to be obtained from General Motors Customer Care and Aftersales (GMCC&A). Please refer to your "involved vehicles listing" before ordering parts. Normal orders should be placed on a DRO = Daily Replenishment Order. In an emergency situation, parts should be ordered on a CSO = Customer Special Order.





Service Procedure

1. Open the hood of the vehicle.
2. Locate the power steering pump.





Note
The power steering line banjo fitting has a locking device (1). The locking device is in the correct position if the stop position is BEFORE the wall of the power steering pump. Refer to the red line in the illustration. (A) Incorrect Position (B) Correct Position.

3. Determine if the power steering line banjo fitting has its locking device located in the correct position.

- If the power steering line banjo fitting locking device is located in the correct position, close the hood of the vehicle. No further action is required.
- If the power steering line banjo fitting locking device is NOT located in the correct position, proceed to step 4.

Note
Place a clean shop towel on each open hydraulic hose connection to collect power steering fluid.

4. Remove the power steering gear inlet hose bolt from the power steering pump.





Caution
Ensure that the hydraulic hose does NOT contact the surrounding lines, clamps, and hoses.

5. Re-install the power steering gear inlet hose. Ensure that two new copper gaskets (2) are installed BEFORE re-installing the power steering inlet hose.
6. Verify that the banjo fitting locking device is in the correct position, which is next to the power steering pump housing.
7. Torque the bolt to 40 Nm (30 lb ft).
8. With the engine running, slowly rotate the steering wheel 45 degrees three times from left to right.
9. Rotate the steering wheel two more times from left stop to right stop positions. Hold the steering wheel at the stop positions for 2-3 seconds.
10. Check the power steering fluid reservoir to ensure the power steering fluid level is at the level marked MAX. Add fluid to the reservoir if required.
11. Verify that there are no power steering fluid leaks. Inspect the banjo fitting, hoses and pump.
