Oil Pump: Service and Repair

1. Remove screws securing pump cover to housing.
2. Remove drive shaft, drive gear and driven gear from pump housing.
3. Remove oil pressure regulator valve and spring from bore in housing assembly. Inspect oil pressure regulator for nicks and burrs.
4. Check for free length of 2.57 inches on regulator spring. Check that spring can be compressed to 1.46 inches under 9.3---10.5 lbs. load.
5. Inspect drive gear and driven gear for nicks and burrs.
6. Inspect pump housing for excessive wear.
7. Check pump cover interior surface for scoring. Check pump housing cover surface for wear.
8. Check drive shaft for damage and wear.
9. To assemble, install pump drive gear over drive shaft so that retaining ring is inside gear. Position drive gear over pump housing shaft closest to pressure regulator bore.
10. Position driven gear over remaining shaft in pump housing, meshing driven gear with drive gear.
11. Install oil pressure regulator spring and valve in bore of housing.
12. install pump cover over drive shaft and install retaining screws. Torque to 5 ft. lbs.
