Drive Range-Fourth Gear
Drive Range - Fourth Gear:
DRIVE RANGE-FOURTH GEAR
CONVERTER CLUTCH APPLIED
FOURTH CLUTCH APPLIED
THIRD CLUTCH APPLIED
The 3-4 shift is basically controlled in the same manner as the 2-3 shift. As vehicle speed increases, governor pressure overcomes 3-4 Modulated Throttle Valve (M.T.V.) and 3-4 throttle valve spring pressure to open the 3-4 shift valve. The 3-4 shift valve then allows third pressure to fill the fourth clutch passage which is directed to the following:
Fourth Clutch Check Ball (1): Orifices the feed to the fourth clutch.
3-4 Accumulator: Cushions the fourth clutch apply by absorbing fourth clutch oil. The amount of cushion is controlled by the accumulator pressure.
Fourth Clutch Piston: Applies the fourth clutch.
SUMMARY
The fourth clutch holds the input sun gear; the second clutch drives the input carrier around the stationary sun gear; and the input internal gear is driven in Overdrive.
