CONVERTER CLUTCH - RELEASED
REVERSE BAND - APPLIED
INPUT CLUTCH - APPLIED
INPUT SPRAG - HOLDING

When the selector lever is moved to the Reverse (R) position, the manual valve directs line pressure to the following:
1. Line pressure passes through the 2-3 shift valve and 3-4 shift valve to the input clutch. The input clutch is applied and drives the input sun gear.
^ Park Reverse Neutral (PRN) Passage: The PRN passage provides an alternate passage to apply the input clutch. At the reverse boost valve, PRN pressure boosts line pressure from a minimum of 445 kPa (65 psi.) to a maximum of 1595 kPa (230 psi.) at full throttle.
^ Reverse Servo: Line pressure feed to the reverse servo is controlled by the reverse servo boost valve for good reverse servo apply feel. The reverse servo applies the reverse band which holds the input carrier stationary.

SUMMARY
Line pressure is boosted to prevent the clutches from slipping. The input clutch drives the input sun gear. The reverse band holds the input carrier stationary and the input internal gear is driven in reverse.
