SUBJECT: RADIO POWER ANTENNA REMAINS UP WITH RADIO OFF
(EXCHANGE RADIO RECEIVER)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1990 BROUGHAMS


Some 1990 Broughams may experience a condition where the radio antenna will remain extended when the radio is turned "OFF" with the ignition "ON". The antenna will then retract when the ignition is turned "OFF".

This condition may be caused by software contained in the remote radio receiver. The condition may occur when power to the radio receiver has been interrupted or by exposure to transient voltages such as when jump starting. Revised software has been developed, and the radio receiver may be exchanged or repaired for this condition at an AC-Delco radio repair shop following the procedure listed in DSIB 91-I-1, Section 2, and Section 9A of the Service Information Manual. Enclose a Cadillac Audio System Condition (ASC) form describing the condition and referring the repair shop to Delco Electronics bulletin RD90TBA10.

To diagnose this condition verify that the antenna is extended with the radio turned "OFF" and key "ON", and the audio system is not operating. Pressing the "RCL/PROG" (TOP) button will have no effect, and the time of day will remain displayed if the radio system is powered "OFF". If either the radio power switch or the ignition switch are turned "OFF" and pressing the "RCL/PROG" button toggles the display between time of day and any other display, then the audio system is remaining powered up; and the condition may be due to an internal short and should be diagnosed as described in Service Bulletin T-90-32.

If the audio system is not remaining powered up, then the radio fuse should be pulled from the fuse block. If the antenna retracts, exchange the radio receiver per this bulletin. If the antenna remains extended, diagnose for a damaged antenna relay or mast assembly per Sections 8A-151 and 9A.
